McDonnell: Use Bonds to Fund Transportation Needs

The governor says existing conditions are unacceptable and will push for construction money.

Gov. Bob McDonnell has big plans to move forward on transportation projects in the commonwealth, including Northern Virginia. While elected officials in Loudoun are clamoring for funding for long-awaited projects such as the Rt. 7/Belmont Ridge Road interchange or the Sycolin Road/Leesburg Bypass flyover, McDonnell was not specific about projects the state would pursue. However, more money for projects in this region would have to be part of the equation to keep up with growth. "It’s never going to be an easy commute because there’s always going to be a growing population in Northern Virginia," the governor said during a recent interview with Patch editors. “What we can’t do is be as far behind in the construction plans as we are now.” …

McDonnell Lays Out Legislative Plans

The governor opens up on a range of issues facing this year's General Assembly session.

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell sat down to speak with a few Patch editors in Richmond on Friday, less than a week before Virginia General Assembly gavels into session on Wednesday. There were many topics to talk about, including transportation, education, health care, the cost of college, gas taxes, illegal immigration, redistricting and much more. McDonnell (R) is beginning his second year at Virginia’s governor and he has an aggressive plan laid out for this year’s legislative session.
