After playing Loudon's YouthFest, the local group takes the next step as a band.
Loudoun Youth’s 2011 Battle of the Bands winner Lightspeed Rescue continues to build on its success, and this month released a music video for the single, “Keep Your Body Moving.” Lightspeed Rescue, or LSR, is a 6-piece funk, hip-hop band comprised mostly of area high school students. By winning the Battle of the Band contest in April, LSR earned the opportunity to open for The Maine, a professional touring band, at YouthFest. The band, which formed in 2007 at Briar Woods High School, released their first EP, Celebration, on iTunes in May and the music video is the next step as they seek the limelight. On Saturday afternoon, Loudoun County’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) hosted the 6th annual YouthFest at the Brambelton Town Center. Kicking off promptly at 3 p.m., the main stage hosted a wide variety of local and national musicians including the headline act “The Maine.” A crowd of teenagers from across the county gathered in front of center stage right from the first act and the throng only grew bigger throughout the afternoon and into the evening. Among the range of hair colors, texting – a mobile phone in nearly every hand – and friendship-building moments an obvious theme stood out: people were there to have an amazing time.
