Getting Out of the House

What To Do After the Leftovers

Get out of the house for a family outing around Loudoun County. Who knows, you may even finish your gift list.

Did you wake up this morning with a dishwasher needing to be emptied, a floor that could use a mop and the kids wandering around asking what to do today? You are juggling Christmas shopping with entertaining the kids, all with everyone starting to go a little stir-crazy. Around Ashburn are several affordable activities that can get the kids and any guests out of the house for a few hours. A few of these places are also selling unique holiday gifts. Hopefully you or the kids will be able to check one or two loved ones off your list.

A Howling Good Time

Get outside on Saturday for Barkfest & Dog Jog

This event takes place in Franklin Park and is sponsored by the Bull Terrier Rescue of Virginia. Fun activities at Barkfest Dog Festival include a dog trick show with prizes, pet adoptions, demonstrations and custom pet portraits.   If you have a dog that is carrying a few extra pounds around the midsection, sign up to complete the 3-mile dog jog and walk together. While the rest of the …

Hopefully we can avoid another snowmaggedon-type winter, but come January, it'll be nice to look back on fall and know you took full advantage of all those sunny, blustery days. Through Nov. 10, Ticonderoga Farms in Chantilly is hosting their annual fall festival. This 1,000-acre farm is a gigantic playground; complete with a small mountain covered with numerous slides, a spooky barn, teeter ball poles, a swinging suspension bridge, life-size teepees, log cabin forts and a large Noah's Ark playground.  It would be almost impossible to spend time at the farm and not work up a little sweat. As I hit the dirt road that …
