Girl Scout Troop 6369, a member of the Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital (GSCNC), created 35 Pet First Aid kits for distribution to families that adopt a dog or cat from the Loudoun County Animal Shelter. Stream Valley Veterinary Hospital’s Dr. Susan Kirk and veterinary technician Shannon Robinson educated the troop on pet care, common illnesses and first aid essentials. Old Mill Veterinary Hospital provided the contents of the kits, which were supplemented by donations from family, friends and neighbors of the Girls Scouts. Loudoun County receives dogs rescued from Missouri breeding facility
Loudoun County Animal Care and Control this week received 4 dogs rescued by the Humane Society of the United States from two Missouri breeding facilities, according to a press release. The dogs represent just a few of those rescued. Two more are set to arrive later this week. The dogs range in age from 2 years to 8 years and come from small breeds. "We are one of HSUS's Emergency Sheltering Partners," Laura Rizer, Acting Shelter Administrator, said via e-mail. "We received a call last week that they had dogs coming to the area from breeding facilities in Missouri. Friends of Homeless Animals scheduled a pet adoption event at the Ashburn Farm Windmill Pavilion Saturday from 10:00am to 2:00pm. In addition to cats and dogs onsite, the group has pictures and descriptions of hundreds of pets in need of homes with which visits can be arranged.
