The Stone Bridge Girls Varsity Lacrosse (13-4) moved up a position on the Northern Region Playoff bracket Tuesday with a 17-7 win over Hayfield, while Yorktown eliminated the boys (11-4) by a score of 10-11. That leaves the Stone Bridge girls as Loudoun’s last team in the playoffs. Customers enjoy food and drink specials, big screen TV viewing, but not a win as the Redskins fell 24-14 to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL playoffs.
Leesburg restaurants, hoping to draw in football fans on Sunday, spent the afternoon preparing for the Redskins' first home playoff game since 1999. They got the fans – but their team couldn't secure a win, as the Redskins fell at home to the Seattle Seahawks 24-14. The Baltimore Ravens beat the the Indianapolis Colts 24-9 and will head to play the Denver Broncos. And though the Washington Redskins were taking to the field Sunday hoping to finish their day by packing for a trip to Atlanta to play the Falcons next week, now the Seahawks will head to the Georgia Dome instead. Before that, spirits were high in Leesburg. At The Green Turtle, the pregame excitement was building with fans arriving well before kickoff to watch the game on one of …

The local team store at the Dulles Town Center is awaiting the arrival of the the burgundy and gold stuff you have to have.
Now that the Washington Redskins have overcome their long hunt for a quarterback and returned to the NFL post season for the first time in 13 years, fans are clamoring to show off the burgundy and gold colors. Don’t worry, the Redskins Store at Dulles Town Center has plenty of gear, but merchandise with the words “division champs” or any other reference to the team’s 1st place finish in the NFC East, won’t be available at the store until Wednesday, according to a clerk at the store. So by all means, grab that sweatshirt you’ve been debating all season, but you’ll need to wait another day or two for the division champ gear. The victory came in the best way it could for the Washington, in the last game of the season against the hated Dallas …

Mid-season turnaround carries the team to the postseason for a home game.
The Washington Redskins pulled off the home victory against longtime rivals the Dallas Cowboys at FedEx Field Sunday night to close out the NFL’s regular season and kick off a hopeful playoff run. While the Cowboys made a game of it, turnovers made the difference. After Dallas got the ball back trailing by 3 points, quarterback Tony Romo threw his third interception. The Redskins took advantage and put the game away with a touchdown at 28-18. Let your team know what you think on Ashburn Patch. Congratulate them or just share your thoughts about the victory and next week’s home game against the Seattle Seahawks. Redskins Park, the team's headquarters is located in Ashburn.

The Briar Woods football team now seeks third straight state title.
The Briar Woods Falcons varsity football team has outpaced opponents for three years and the dominant team on Friday snagged the Region II Division 4 title again with a 31-0 victory over Loudoun County High School. Briar Woods quarterback Trace McSorley led the team scoring this past week, with two touchdowns in the air and one on the ground. Cam Serigne and Brandon Polk caught McSorley’s 12- and 35-yard scoring passes, respectively, while Cory Colder rushed for another score. McSorley completed 14 of 18 passes for 201 yards and led the team rushing with 83 yards. Loudoun County quarterback Jake Lokey led his team with 22 of its 29 yards on the ground. He completed 20 of 40 pass attempts for 142 yards and one interception. Briar Woods now …

Late interception return for a touchdown seals regional playoff win for defending state champion Briar Woods.
On Friday night in Brambleton, the Briar Woods Falcons relied on two scores from their defense to help pull off a 29-19 win over the visiting Loudoun County Raiders. The win sends the Falcons to their second straight Region 2 final where they'll host No. 2 seed Powhatan, who beat Louisa 35-0 in their semifinal game. The Raiders gave the Falcons their greatest test of the season since an opening week loss to Broad Run. Leading just 8-7 at halftime and 15-13 heading into the fourth quarter, the Falcons needed a 34-yard interception return for a touchdown from Jamal Hill to ice the game on a frigid night in Ashburn. Briar Woods struck first when Matt Rolin's sacked Raider quarterback Jake Lokey in the end zone. The safety gave the Falcons the…
Spartans lose quarterback early, never recover from the Blackhawks' season-ending onslaught.
The Broad Run Spartans dream season came crashing to an end Friday night after starting quarterback Connor Jessop left the game early with an ankle injury and the visiting Brooke Point Blackhawks sped off with a convincing 47-27 win and a spot in the regional finals. Early on, it actually looked like Broad Run (8-3) was destined for the next round. After both teams traded punts, the Spartans engineered a 62-yard scoring drive, highlighted by Jessop's 6-yard, cross-body touchdown pass to Kevin Taggart. The score gave the Spartans a 7-0 first quarter lead and seemingly control of the game on their Ashburn home turf. But Broad Run's lead lasted barely 30 seconds as the Blackhawks (9-3) demonstrated the abundance of speed and athleticism that …

Falcons next host Loudoun County in a rematch of the last game of the regular season.
Some people say there is no such thing as a moral victory. However, few would argue that the Park View Patriots didn't come away with at least that much Friday night in Brambleton. After losing to Briar Woods 53-3 in the second game of the season, the Patriots scored more points than any team this season against the usually dominant Briar Woods defense. But in the end, Park View could not keep up with Briar Woods’ overall talent and depth – or their blond "playoff" Mohawks – as Alex Carter and Trace McSorley outdueled Patriot quarterback Alec Dombkowski to help the Falcons come away with the 49-21 win. The Patriots brief flirtation with an epic upset was led almost single-handedly led by Dombkowski. The lanky gunslinger gave the Falcon …
