Businesses in the community have been targeted in recent Ashburn incidents.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has requested the public’s assistance in identifying a possible suspect in a series of commercial burglaries at Village Center at Belmont Greene in Ashburn. Each year, multiple burglaries target businesses in the shopping center on Piccadilly Plaza, just off Belmont Ridge Road. In most cases, perpetrators took cash from registers or tip jars. LCSO detectives released several surveillance video stills today in an attempt to draw help from the public to identify the man so he can be questioned. Investigators believe he may live in or frequent the area. The most recent incidents occurred in October 2012 when a dry cleaner and a salon were targeted. Pedestrian Killed Crossing Route 28 A woman was killed early Sunday morning after attempting to cross Route 28 near the Dulles Toll Road. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to reports of a female struck while attempting to cross the road around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Investigators were working to identify the victim, who died at the scene. Tragedy in Connecticut prompts additional precautionary patrols near schools.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, and the Leesburg, Purcellville and Middleburg police departments have scheduled a meeting next week to review school security plans with Loudoun’s borders, prompted by this past week’s tragedy in Newtown, CT, according to an LCSO press release. “As you know, we currently have school resource officers assigned to all County middle and high schools and have an impressive safety record and a great working relationship with school officials,” Sheriff Mike Chapman said in the release. “We also have DARE officers present at many elementary schools. Unauthorized Use of Vehicle An acquaintance of the owner of a 2001 Toyota Avalon took the car, which was parked near Armstrong Terrace and Lost Creek Terrace, without permission between 11:30 p.m. Oct. 22 and 12:30 a.m. Oct. 23. The vehicle was recovered and deputies charged Charles R. Jones, 25, of Ashburn, with unauthorized use of a vehicle. Concealed Weapon Charge Near Pipeline Plaza Tristan A. Van Norden, 21, of Leesburg, was charged with failure to stop for police, obstruction of justice and carrying a concealed weapon after he fled his vehicle on foot during a traffic stop at 1:58 a.m. Sept. 7 near the intersection of Farmwell Road and Pipeline Plaza. The suspect entered a Rite Aid just off Route 7 in Sterling and allegedly demanded prescription drugs.
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office has released surveillance video of a Saturday morning robbery under investigation at the Rite Aid Pharmacy in Cedar Lake Plaza in Sterling. The video shows an unknown white male entering the pharmacy at 9:50 a.m. March 3. The same man is believed to be the person who later approached the pharmacy counter, implied he had a weapon and demanded prescription medication, according to a press release from the LCSO. The suspect is reported to have left the scene with an undisclosed amount of prescription medication. Investigators with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office are investigating an alleged carjacking that occurred around 10:15 p.m. Feb. 22 along the 21840 block of Baldwin Square in Sterling. A pizza delivery driver reported that after making a delivery an unknown black male approached him. The driver, a 47-year-old Sterling man, told investigators that the suspect assaulted him with a blunt object, took the victim’s keys and left in the victim’s car, a 1999 blue, four-door Honda Civic. The suspect was described as a 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-10 male in his late teens or early 20s. He reportedly wore a black baseball hat and a black jacket at the time of the robbery. Eight months after a vehicle struck a woman attempting to cross Gloucester Parkway at Ashburn Ponds Boulevard, a 20-year-old Ashburn woman has charged with felony hit and run, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators allege that Brittany A. Harris was driving the dark-color four-door that struck the 55-year-old victim around 7:20 p.m. May 12, 2011, and then left the scene. The victim was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital for serious injuries following the accident, and has since been released. Department celebrates its best public safety performers
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office took time on Friday, Dec. 3 to recognize its most committed members. Awards were given to those whose day-to-day efforts don't get the recognition they deserve. Employees were nominated by their peers and those nominations were reviewed by an awards committee. The event marked the first such ceremony, which the Sheriff's Office plans to make an annual event. Loudoun County Sheriff Steve Simpson, the Sheriff's Office command staff, Loudoun County Administrator Tim Helmstreet and Dulles District Supervisor Stevens Miller attended the ceremony, which took place at the Loudoun County Government Center.
