Ashburn Awaits News of Singer’s ‘Voice’ Audition

Lena Traynham was in Chicago for an audition she landed through the School of Rock.

Briar Woods senior Lena Traynham had a big appointment Monday all of her friends in Ashburn are dying to hear about. Traynham, a resident of Loudoun Valley Estates, was invited to audition for “The Voice,” the singing competition on NBC. Just how the audition came to be could serve as a dose of hope of young musicians. Lena, 17, said music has always come naturally because it runs in the family. “I’ve been singing my whole life, because my dad’s a musician, too,” she explained during a recent interview, naming singer/guitarist Harry Traynham. “I kind of look up to my dad in singing.” Lena said she started at the School of Rock in Ashburn about three years ago. “I’d been searching around for a place to take voice lessons,” she said, adding …

If Harry's daughter is anything like him, she is going to be just fine. Harry can play, sing, and flat out entertain with the best of them. I grew up listening to & watching Harry Traynam perform & he is truly a gem. I suspect the apple hasn't fallen far from the tree, and we will be seeing Harry's daughter on "the VOICE"!   more ›

The Students at This Ashburn School Rock

Music program puts area youngsters on stage; shows at Sterling's Rio Cantina this weekend.

Red and green lights flicker above the stage as the iconic opening riff of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" begins. Loud, clashing drums maintain a steady beat as the guitars soften and the lead singer softly delivers the first verse. The drums kick up and the vocalist takes over the stage with her fiery velvet voice. It's one of the most triumphant concerts you could ever hope to see. And it's even more impressive when you realize that, when Kurt Cobain died in 1994, this lead singer hadn't even been born yet. The Ashburn School of Rock is the rare school that encourages students to bring out their iPods and inner Mick Jaggers.
