The longtime Loudoun movie theater feels the squeeze from larger competitors, limited space.
For some, the Tally Ho Theatre marks old memories. Soon it may become one. Market Street Productions (MSP), the operators of the theater in downtown Leesburg since 2008, have given their notice and will be vacating the theatre effective in early September, 2012. Their last day of operation will be on Monday, Sept. 3. The county has had new theaters open in recent years—Regal Fox 16 Cinemas in Brambleton and the Cobb Theater in Leesburg—to join the existing Regal CountrySide 20. In the near future, the Dulles Town Center will have a new movie theater, while the Alamo Cinema Drafthouse earlier this year announced plans to open at One Loudoun. Big fans of Harry Potter pulled out their favorite Hogwart costumes and headed to the movie theater last night for the midnight opening of the final episode in the series – “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.” Since 2001, with the introduction of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, J.K. Leesburg's Jingle Jam isn't your traditional caroling event; it's a compilation of holiday music with a rock 'n' roll twist
Located in downtown Leesburg is the historic Tally Ho Theatre. This twin theatre showcases first-run feature films, movie theme nights, live comedy shows and musical performances. Come December, the theatre transforms itself for the annual Jingle Jam. The organizers behind Leesburg's popular Acoustic on the Green outdoor concert series help organize this holiday treat. The concert does not offer your traditional carol fare but instead pumps out a rocking compilation the All-Star Band. Downtown Leesburg would be an excellent location for a nightclub with dancefloor / DJ / bar. With the high volume of people in Leesburg, it would definitely generate business, especially if each night had a different theme: "Top 40, hip hop, country, techno, etc. The surrounding office buildings are closed during the evening so noise would not be an issue.   more ›
