A call from a resident who spotted suspicious activity led to initial arrests; investigation netted weapon, seven arrests.
A quick call by a concerned resident resulted in the recovery of a stolen firearm and six arrests, possibly providing some relief to a rash of thefts from cars in Ashburn and the surrounding area. Those arrested were charged with larceny for their alleged involvement in the incidents, which span the first two months of 2013. The following incidents were reported to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.
Unauthorized Use of Vehicle An acquaintance of the owner of a 2001 Toyota Avalon took the car, which was parked near Armstrong Terrace and Lost Creek Terrace, without permission between 11:30 p.m. Oct. 22 and 12:30 a.m. Oct. 23. The vehicle was recovered and deputies charged Charles R. Jones, 25, of Ashburn, with unauthorized use of a vehicle. False Bomb Threat A business in the Ashburn Village shopping center reported that a bomb threat had been made at 9:45 a.m. Oct. 5. A canine unit searched the building and reported nothing suspicious. The incident remains under investigation. Deputies with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office arrested three male suspects near Leesburg following a theft from a jewelry store at the Dulles Town Center Friday, Sept. 7. According to an LCSO report, two men entered Fink’s Jewelry store in the mall around 3:30 p.m. One of the suspects used a small blunt object to break a glass jewelry case, while a second suspect grabbed a number of watches valued at more than $100,000. The suspects then fled. Deputies responded to the scene and an alert was issued for the suspects. Deputies responded to a home near Nashua Street and Starry Night Alley in the Belmont Greene community at 11:49 p.m. Dec. 14 for a report of an assault in progress. Two males were seen fighting in the driveway when deputies arrived. Both men and another person at the scene fled on foot. One of the men assaulted a deputy who attempted to stop him, and broke free. That person, Jordan West, 20, of Ashburn, was taken to the Emergency Room of Inova Loudoun Hospital and later transferred to Inova Fairfax Hospital for injuries. It was not clear whether the injuries occurred during the fight or during the arrest. Charges are pending against West for assault on law enforcement, resisting arrest, underage possession of alcohol and drunk in public. …

Two people suspected of involvement in the theft of a purse in the Dulles Crossing Plaza parking lot Nov. 30 turned themselves in to authorities Thursday, Dec. 8. Investigators obtained warrants for Justin M. Ahearn, 26, and Morgan A. Jennings, 25, both of Sterling. Each suspect was previously wanted for possession of controlled substances. After the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday released surveillance video of the crime and images of the two suspects involved, investigators received help identifying them. Soon after, additional mug shots were released to the media and the two suspects turned themselves in on Thursday. Investigators from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office released an image pulled from surveillance video of a possible accomplice in the Nov. 30 purse-snatching incident at Dulles Crossing Plaza near the Dulles Town Center. Around 5:50 p.m. Nov. 30, a pickup truck bumped the shopping cart of a 33-year-old Herndon woman who was loading items into her vehicle. The driver then reached out of his window, grabbed the victim’s purse from the cart and fled the area. The Loudoun County Sheriff’s investigators continue to seek assistance identifying the person suspected of snatching a purse around 5:50 p.m. Nov. 30 at the Dulles Crossing Plaza shopping center, near the Dulles Town Center. Today, investigators released photos and video of the suspect and the truck involved. A 33-year-old Herndon woman reported to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office that, as she loaded items into her vehicle, a small pick-up drove by and bumped her shopping cart. The driver then reached out of the driver’s side window, grabbed the victim’s purse from the shopping cart and fled the area. After a series of reports of items taken from cars, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office reminds residents to lock their vehicle doors and take all values out. An open garage also was hit. Monday and Tuesday evenings, April 18-19, at least one person entered five vehicles without permission in the Loudoun Valley Estates community. Four cases resulted in damaged windows. Items taken include credit cards, cash and GPS units. The thefts occurred in the 43500 block of Lucketts Bridge Circle, the 22600 block of Leithtown Mill Court, the 43400 block of Wheatlands Chase Court, the 22700 block of Oatlands Grove Place and the 22600 block of Taylorstown Hunt Court.
