LTE: Sterling UUC Saddened by Mosque Vandalism

Chantilly house of worship under construction dealt estimated $60,000 in damages.

Dear Editor: The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Sterling is deeply saddened by the violence visited upon the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Mosque in Chantilly. The vandalism, which included the destruction of all of the first level windows and glass doors, will cost the community $60,000 in repairs. Tallying the damage begins with recognition of the monetary loss, but does not stop there. The Mosque is a community within a community, a neighbor to neighbors. The desecration of the building is an overt act of bigotry, an act that threatens to rend the delicate ties that hold a community of diverse people in balance. We extend our sympathy and concern to the Ahmadiyya community and hope they will have the means to rebuild, as we hope …

Vandalism Incidents in Ashburn Village

Despite recent arrest in '68' case, numerous incidents of vehicle damage are reported.

After multiple cars were damaged in Ashburn Village one recent night/early morning, investigators are asking anyone with information about the perpetrators to contact the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Department. Sometime after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, and 7 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, an unknown person or persons damaged seven vehicles in the vicinity of Shady Glen Terrace and Cool Fern Square. A similar incident was reported in a parking lot near the 20400 block of Ashburn Village Boulevard. Most of the vehicles were left with dented hoods and scratched paint. LCSO Makes Arrest in ‘68’ Vandalism Cases

Deputies charge 18-year-old Sterling man and believe he acted alone.

A teenager from Sterling was charged June 9 in a vandalism case in which he allegedly spray-painted the number ‘68’ on numerous vehicles in Ashburn, Leesburg and Sterling. Deputies from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office charged Christopher W. Bolt, 18, in the case. More than 50 vehicles were painted with that number or some variation of it between April 30 and June 7, according to an LCSO press release. No significant meaning to the number ‘68’ was found during the investigation, and it appears the suspect acted alone, accorrding to the release. The incidents are not believed to be gang-related. Vandalism Spree Hits Ashburn Village Vehicles

Deputies are investigating whether spray-paint, window and tire damage incidents are related to Leesburg tire slashing.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office seeks information after an unknown person or persons spray-painted and vandalized numerous cars primarily in the Ashburn Village community. Saturday, April 30, and Sunday, May 1 the suspect(s) spray-painted nine vehicles – in most cases with the number ‘6’ or ‘68’ – in the area of Rainsboro Drive, Ruffsdale Court, Catlett Place, Bristow Circle and Mustoe Place. In addition, residents on Dubois Court and Ridgeway Drive reported several other cases of vandalism, including damaged windows and tires. Tires were slashed on three vehicles along Shady Glen Terrace. Two vehicles also had their tires slashed on Harbor Hills Terrace in Leesburg during the same time period.
