Patch readers across Northern Virginia cast more than 2,100 votes this week to choose their favorite local burger places.
The results of the first week of Best of Patch polling finished on Friday morning, and the big winner around the region was Five Guys Burgers and Fries, which was chosen by Patch readers as the best burger place in six area communities. But Five Guys wasn't the only winner in this week's poll. Reston voters chose The Counter Burger as their favorite, Fredericksburg voters chose the local Otter House, and Leesburg chose Blue Ridge Grill its favorite. Other restaurants in each town received many votes, glowing comments from fans and great reviews in the Patch Places directory. Congratulations to Five Guys for its win in the Best of Ashburn Patch best hamburger poll. With all the restaurants that specialize in hamburger these days, it seemed like a logical poll to kick things off. Readers voted throughout the week on their favorites. Next week the poll will focus on the best places in Ashburn to take your children. Of the 144 people who voted, 60 (41 percent) voted for Five Guys, which is located in the Ashburn Restaurant Park. In second place, the Fuddruckers at Pipeline Plaza received 34 votes (23 percent). The Blue Ridge Grill in Brambleton—which offers the Royale with Cheese, the BRG Burger and the Leesburger—took third place with 20 votes (13 percent), followed closely by the Red Robin at Ryan Park Center, …

Ashburn scores big on list comprised primarily of small, local businesses.
I am Modern Magazine recently released its “Best of the DC Suburbs” list for Northern Virginia. According to its survey of readers, Loudoun restaurants and businesses – including many in Ashburn – were able to claim several top spots in numerous categories from the Ashburn-based magazine. A good handful of honors also went to places located nearby in Leesburg and Sterling. Ali Vonal, editor of I am Modern, recently spoke on a local TV news program about the results. “We received tens of thousands of votes over a period of a month," he said. "The survey was dominated by small independent-owned businesses ... companies that offered urban-chic sophistication without the high prices”.
