Baseball Lights to Go to Pipeline

Budget item resolves community, Little League rift.

Not so long ago a proposal to light the fields at Greg Crittenden Memorial Park sparked a backlash from Ashburn Farm residents. A budget item approved by the Loudoun Board of Supervisors this year appears to have resolved the issue, at least until for now. Lights will now be installed at the two fields near Pipeline Plaza – Chick Ford and Ryan Bickel fields – where there are fewer adjacent homes. The closest homes will be those now under construction across Ashburn Village Boulevard. Residents Balk at Proposal for Lights at Crittenden Park

Proposed Lights at Crittenden Park Subject of Feb. 16 Meeting

Dulles Little League has made the request to extend the potential uses of the field.

With the intent to make better use of the baseball fields in Loudoun County, Dulles Little League has proposed lighting the fields at Greg Crittenden Memorial Park. Lights would enable later play, and therefore accommodate more games. During a meeting set for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Windmill Community Center in Ashburn Farm, residents can ask questions or offers opinions on the proposal. County representatives will be on hand. The Loudoun Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, on behalf of the league, has submitted a formal request to permit the lights. Current zoning allows stadium lighting with certain constraints, but the request requires approval from the Loudoun Board of Supervisors because it is a county park. …
