Proceeds from the book series released in September provided for the $18,000 gift.
A dog named Beamer delivered an $18,000 donation to Inova Loudoun Hospital Monday. Well, sort of. Cindy Chambers, an Inova Loudoun Hospital board member, wrote a book series intended to help kids meet the wonderful doctors and other health professionals who work at the hospital. Chambers wanted children to read the books and become more aware of how a hospital works and the machinery they may encounter, to make visits less intimidating. The four-book Beamer Book Series features a dog –you guessed it, named Beamer – as the main character. In the books, Beamer introduces the people he meets while working as a therapy dog in the hospital. Chambers has dedicated all of the book series’ proceeds to charity. The first donation of $18,000 was …

The hospital first opened in 1912 as Leesburg Hospital, officials say. Over the years, it became part of the Inova Health system, a journey documented in the video. Saturday's event at hospital will feature experts, healthy cooking demonstrations, massages, giveaways and more.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and to celebrate, Inova Breast Care Institute will, for the third consecutive year, host a retreat at Inova Loudoun Hospital. According to Inova Loudoun’s Breast Nurse Navigator Barbara McDonnell, each year has brought a different theme to the event. In 2010 the theme focused on young women with breast cancer; in 2011, the focus was breast cancer and family genes. It’s important to know what you need to do in order to take care of yourself following a diagnosis, McDonnell said, hence this year's theme. “It’s a really intense experience that you go through when you’re diagnosed,” McDonnell said. As a survivor who was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2008, McDonnell said patients can't let breast…
