String of larcenies cause the Loudoun Sheriff to issue the advisory to secure cars and remove, stow valuable items.
A string of larcenies from vehicles in the Broadlands, Brambleton and the Dulles South service areas of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has prompted Loudoun Sheriff Mike Chapman to remind residents to lock their vehicles and secure all valuables or out of plain view from prying eyes. In most cases, investigators believe the vehicles were left unlocked, making it easy to enter them, according to an LCSO press release. The agency advises residents to secure property, which includes closing garage doors to a residence, to prevent such crimes of opportunity. “Locking your vehicle and removing expensive items from plain view will reduce your chances of becoming the victim of this crime opportunity,” Chapman said in the release. Possession Stolen Property, Marijuana Deputies filed several charges against Kevin P. King, 19, of Ashburn, April 1 after reportedly catching him with stolen property. A caller reported to the sheriff’s office that subjects were entering vehicles in the area of Florence Terrace between 10:30 p.m. March 31 and 8 a.m. April 1. Deputies the located a vehicle occupied by King on the 44100 block of Ashburn Village Shopping Plaza. Deputies charged King with two counts of possession of stolen property, one misdemeanor possession of stolen property and possession of marijuana. Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 21800 block of Petworth Court around 11:15 p.m. March 21 after neighbors reported a male subject was banging on a door and had damaged a window. Deputies were unable to make contact with residents in the home and entered the home out of concern for the family’s safety. A 53-year-old Ashburn man was taken into custody and charged with domestic assault, obstruction of justice and assault on a law enforcement officer. After a replica grenade previously shut down Route 28, the Sterling Boulevard ramps were closed temporarily around 7 a.m. March 22 after a tractor trailer carrying books overturned.
