Ashburn to Get Another Brewery

New company set to open near former Old Dominion facility and join Lost Rhino, The V as community beer makers.

Ashburn is expecting another brewery this fall, according to a story in the Washington Business Journal. Old Ox Brewery anticipates a September opening along Guilford Drive in the Beaumeade Business Park, which is street where Old Dominion Brewing Company was located until a Maryland company and Anheuser-Busch purchased it in 2008. The new owners subsequently closed the Ashburn facility. Since Old Dominion’s departure, brewing experienced a brief hiatus in Ashburn until Lost Rhino Brewing Company opening along Red Rum Drive. The Vintage Restaurant Group, which owns Vintage 50 in Leesburg and brews its own beer, just opened The V Eatery in the Ashburn Restaurant Park along Waxpool Road. Here’s another story about Old Ox from the WBJ.

Local businesses collaborate with others to benefit breast cancer awareness.

Not only are the owners of Leesburg’s Vintage 50 moving their South Riding restaurant to Ashburn, but they are teaming with Ashburn’s Lost Rhino to brew special beer in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. The Washington City Paper has a story about the collaboration, which also includes Richmond’s Hardywood Park Craft Brewery and D.C.'s forthcoming Bluejacket. The group is holding a celebration at Churchkey in DC today.

This week Reader Choice poll seeks the best place to get green on St. Patrick’s Day and Ashburn has plenty of options. Let’s be honest, the big celebrations are at the bars. While pubs are among the options, a few other bars in Ashburn likely draw a crown on March 17. So what’s your? After you vote, please leave a review on the places' Patch pages. If I miss a favored place, let me know (dusty@patch.com); although, this week I did try to narrow the list and did not include all Ashburn bars.
