Metrorail and Delgaudio Dominated News in 2012

Controversies over rail decision and Sterling District supervisor were top issues of board’s first year.

Two issues dominated the first year of the current Loudoun County Board of Supervisors’ lineup – the question of whether to approve extending Metrorail’s Silver Line to Dulles Airport and into Loudoun County, and charges surrounding Sterling District Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio. They said we needed Dulles Rail to bring commercial development and bring down property tax rates. After less than 6 months, how's that working out? So far we have Toll Brothers asking to rezone Belmont Executive Center from commercial to more residential, and MWAA looking to monopolize commercial development with their property-tax-exempt land surrounding the Rt. 606 station. Buona Hopes to Shift Tax Burden from Residents to Businesses

The Republican nominee for Ashburn supervisor lays out his platform.

As the son of a local government politician, Ralph Buona is no stranger to the campaign trail. While growing up, he worked on many of his father’s campaigns. But Buona never thought he would follow in his father’s footsteps. He never considered running for office until he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce and recognized a void in Loudoun’s local government. “Every time I’d go to a [Chamber of Commerce] meeting, it came up repeatedly that we need business people to get into elected office,” Buona said. “It struck me that as the head of the business community, if I wouldn’t do it, who would?” So, earlier this year, Buona launched his campaign to join the Board of Supervisors in the newly …
