Ashburn Woman Killed in Crash on Fairfax County Parkway

An Ashburn woman has been identified as the victim of an accident on Fairfax County Parkway a week ago.

Around 8 a.m. Jan. 15, a 2005 Chevrolet Astro van collided with a 2001 Toyota Camry at the intersection of Fairfax County Parkway and New Road in the Burke area, according to a report from the Fairfax County Police Department.

The van, driven by a 32-year-old Maryland man, was heading northbound on Fairfax County Parkway, approaching New Road. Vijaya L. Vellanki, 40, of Ashburn, was in the Camry facing east at the intersection, according to the report.

The Camry reportedly pull out in front of the van, attempting to head north on Fairfax County Parkway, when the two collided, according to the report.

The minivan’s driver sustained minor injuries and declined to be taken to a medical facility. Vellanki was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where she succumbed to injuries from the crash on Thursday, Jan. 16.

Speed and alcohol are not considered to be factors in this crash, according to Fairfax Police.
